Library Accessibility Policy and Resources

Accessibility at the SOWELA Library

The SOWELA Library & Learning Resource Center (LLRC) is committed to providing equal access to library collections, services, and facilities for all library users. Towards those ends, the LLRC selects and acquires, whenever possible, resources and technologies that are accessible to all. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations and timely access to users with disabilities and cooperate with SOWELA's Office of Student Services whenever possible.

If you have questions or would like to request these services, contact us at (337) 421-6530 or sowela.library@sowela.edu

Library Materials & Facilities

Library users can request library staff perform personal services that include:

  • retrieving items from the shelves,
  • assisting library users with printing, copying, and scanning devices. (These requests are subject to copyright limitations.)

Study tables accessible by wheelchair are available.

The library prioritizes the acquisition of audio-visual materials that are captioned and include transcripts.

Technology

All SOWELA computers are equipped with the Narrator screen reader software. Headphones are available upon request at the library's help desk. Other assistive technologies such as large keyboards and a writing pad can be obtained by contacting SOWELA's Office of Student Services.

Library Publishing Standards

The library website is designed in accordance with SOWELA's Accessibility of Content Delivered Electronically (PDF) policy.

Other documents and media produced by the library will employ assistive design features including but not limited to:

  • WCAG 2.0 level AA contrast
