What is Evidence-Based Practice?

In medicine, evidence-based practice (or EBP) is a decision making process about patient care that integrates clinical expertise with the most up-to-date scientific research and evidence and the patient's preference for treatment.

Follow the directions below to find EBP research in the medical databases.

Finding EBP in the CINAHL Database

  1. From the CINAHL database homepage, select "Advanced Search."

  2. Find the "Evidence-Based Practice" option. Checking the box will return all EBP results.

  3. Type your search terms into the search bar at the top of the screen and click "Search."

Finding EMP in the MEDLINE Database

  1. From the MEDLINE database homepage, select "Advanced Search."

    The "Advanced Search" option is under the search bar.




     
  2. Find the "EMB Reviews" option. Checking the box will return results only from journals that take an evidence-based approach to research.

  3. Type your search terms into the search bar at the top of the screen and click "Search."
