Library Orientation for Instructors

This guide will include useful information for SOWELA instructors about the services and resources that the library can provide, including info on library instruction, research guides, webinars, and copyright.

Library Mission

To support student and faculty success through access services to current resources, information literacy training, and state-of-the-art technology.

Checking Out Books

Your SOWELA ID is your library card.

Books can be checked out of the library for the entire semester.  The SOWELA Library does not charge late fees, but students must pay to replace lost or damaged items. A $10 processing fee will also be charged when a book must be replaced because of damage or loss.

Books can be returned to the blue drop box on the side of the Arts & Humanities building facing the parking lot.

Recommending and Acquiring New Books

Recommend titles for purchase using the Purchase Request Form.

See the "Library Collection Development Policy (PDF)" for more information on how the library selects, acquires, assesses and removes books from the collection.

Free Printing

Free printing is available in the library with the following rules:

  1. Print front and back - unless your instructor says the assignment can only be printed on one side.
  2. Print at least 2 PowerPoint slides per page - 2 on the front and 2 on the back.
  3. Printing entire e-books is not allowed.
  4. Use the Xerox copy machine in the library's copy room to print documents or copies that will use more than 20 pages.
